Federal Supreme Court settles Kurdistan Region Government budget law challenge

     Today, the Federal Supreme Court considered the lawsuit numbered (168/Federal/2023) filed before it by the plaintiff (President of the Kurdistan Regional Government / being in this capacity) against the defendant (Speaker of the Council of Representatives / being in this capacity) for challenging articles of Law No. (13) of 2023 ((Federal General Budget of the Republic of Iraq for the fiscal years (2023, 2024, 2025)).

It issued its final and binding decision to all authorities, which includes the ruling on the unconstitutionality of the phrase (and with the approval of the Federal Prime Minister) contained in Article (11/1^st) and the phrase (and if it is not possible to dissolve the Council of Representatives, take the necessary decision) contained in Article (13/7^th) of the law.

It ruled to dismiss the lawsuit regarding the challenge to the constitutionality of Articles (2/1^st/5/Beh), (11/2^nd), (12/2^nd/Alif, Beh, Jim, Dal, Heh) and (13/8^th/Beh) of the law.
