   The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, received on Thursday, 18/4/2024, the Ambassador of Hungary in Baghdad, Mr. Attila Tar, at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court in Baghdad.

The President of the Federal Supreme Court welcomed the Hugarian ambassador in Baghdad, and during the meeting, they discussed the development of relations between the two friendly countries and the strengthening of joint cooperation in all fields and the need for communication and continuous meetings to exchange legal experiences in the field of constitutional judiciary because of its importance in supporting the democratic process to achieve the rule of law and the constitution, as the Federal Supreme Court in Baghdad opened horizons of communication with its counterparts in the Arab and international world and to learn about the experiences of countries in this field to support the political process and democracy in Iraq.

The President of the Court explained that the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq for the year 2005 has established the basic principles of the rights and freedoms of the Iraqi people and the foundations that lead to the exercise of those rights and freedoms by the people, the most important of which is equality based on the provisions of Article (14) thereof, peaceful transfer of power based on Article (6) of the Constitution, equal opportunities based on the provisions of Article (16) thereof, and the freedom to establish political parties and join Based on the provisions of Article (39) of the Constitution, the President of the Court also explained that the democratic system in Iraq needs to build constitutional institutions and a correct electoral system, including the existence of a fair electoral law and an independent electoral commission, taking into account the provisions of Article (110) of the Constitution regarding the exclusive competencies of the federal authorities and Article (117) of the Constitution regarding the approval of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq upon its entry into force of the Kurdistan Region and its existing authorities as a federal region, the Hungarian ambassador explained that his country is looking forward to building strong relations with the Iraqi side at various levels, especially in the field of constitutional justice, and praised the independence of the Iraqi judiciary and the role of the Federal Supreme Court in consolidating constitutional and democratic principles to ensure building a parliamentary system based on the rule of law.
